Morrissey delar idag med sig av “Spent the Day in Bed” som är första singeln från hans kommande album “Low in High School” som släpps via Etienne Recordings/BMG den 17 november. Med all säkerhet kommer du känna igen de där påstridiga texterna framförda över upprymda melodier som kommit att känneteckna honom. Hans vädjande, “Stop watching the news, because the news contrives to frighten you” går så självklart ihop med den sista refrängen, “No bus, no boss, no rain, no train.”
Resterande låtar fortsätter i samma stil; han gör upp med politiker och ifrågasätter auktoritet men roar oss också med en och annan traditionell kärlekssång. Morrissey är en lika underhållande som insiktsfull provokatör som likt ingen annan kan väva samman narrativ. “Low in High School” är inget undantag.
Det är hans första studioalbum sedan 2014. Dessutom är det hans debut på BMG. Albumet spelades in i La Fabrique i Frankrike, samt i Ennio Morricones studio i Rom. För produktionen står Joe Chiccarelli som tidigare jobbat med Frank Zappa, The Strokes och The White Stripes för att nämna några.
Efter att han slog igenom med The Smiths har Morrissey gått vidare för att skörda ännu större framgångar som soloartist. Samtliga av hans tio soloalbum har hamnat topp-tio på den brittiska försäljningslistan, varav tre har legat på förstaplats. Debuten med “Viva Hate” från 1988 har följts upp av hyllade album såsom “Kill Uncle”, “Your Arsenal” och det klassiska comeback-albumet “You Are the Quarry” från 2004.
2013 publicerade Morrissey sin självbiografi som blev en omedelbar bestseller.
