Arla spearheads new Swedish dairy training programme

Press Release   •   Aug 07, 2003 17:08 CEST

Arla Foods is behind a new initiative aimed at establishing a 3 year dairy training programme in Sweden.
To be based at the Cathedral School in Skara near Arla Foods’ plant in Götene, the programme is scheduled to receive its first students in the autumn of 2004.

Whereas Denmark already runs several training programmes for the dairy industry, Sweden has no programmes specifically targetting the dairy sector. Although a number of courses are available, the majority of the sector’s workforce lacks formal dairy training.

“There is a significant need for raising skills levels within Swedish dairy production,” says Bent-Olov Svantesson, Operations Manager at Arla Foods Ingredients in Götene. “This new initiative is designed to ensure the availability of new, skilled operators and, at the same time,
provide current staff with opportunities for updating their skills.”

Besides Arla, the food company Dafgårds and the Swedish food industry’s trade organisation are involved in setting up the new programme.
A draft proposal is expected within the next few weeks.
