Staff at Farsø Dairy were informed Thursday that the dairy will cease production from September 1. The closure was approved by Arla Foods' Supervisory Board at a meeting on Wednesday. Wherever possible, the dairy’s 37 employees will be offered work elsewhere within the Arla Foods group.
The closure does not come a surprise as Farsø Dairy was pinpointed as one of the dairies likely to be affected by Arla Foods’ strategy plan of June 2001. Its production of mozzarella will be transferred to Rødkærsbro Dairy where capacity will be expanded from 33,000 tons to 37,000 tons mozzarella. This will create a further 20 jobs at Rødkærsbro.
"By concentrating production of mozzarella on Rødkærsbro we will achieve a more rational and flexible production structure," explained Executive Director Jens Refslund, the Production Division. "In turn, this will enable us to offer better services to our large, international customers."
