Holland's Campina Melkunie is having discussions with the German Emzett (Meierei-Zentrale Berlin) concerning an "intensive co-operation" agreement as from July 1, 1999.
Emzett, Germany's fourth largest dairy group, primarily produces liquid milk, fermented products and desserts and has a turnover of DKK 6 bn. It processes 900 m kg milk per year.
Europe's fourth largest dairy company, Campina Melkunie, receives 4.7 billion kg and has a turnover of approx. DKK 26 bn. Its determination to establish a strong presence in the German market was recently illustrated by Campina's acquisition of an 82 per cent shareholding in the German Südmilch.
With sales of DKK 2 billion, the German market is MD's largest export market. Following the merger with Kløver Mælk, MD Foods is Europe's third largest dairy group with a total milk volume of approx. 5 bn kg.
