Following the cessation of mozzarella production at Farsø Dairy in Jutland in early August, the dairy shipped its final consignment last week. The dismantling of the plant – a consequence of Arla Foods’ current strategy plan – has now begun in preparation for the dairy’s closure on September 1, 2002.
At its peak, mozzarella production at Farsø, the dairy’s only product, totalled 9,000 tons per year. In recent years, however, this has fallen to approximately 4,000 tons. After September 1, Rødkærsbro Dairy will be responsible for all Arla Foods’ production of mozzarella.
With the exception of two to three people, the 37 staff at Farsø have found new employment, the majority elsewhere within the Arla Foods Group, mainly at Bislev Dairy. Some have chosen to relocate to Rødkærsbro.
