Production at Arla Foods Ingredients’ new milk protein factory in Argentina is now up and running.
Following a three-month trial, the first products have now been supplied to customers in Argentina. This week 50 tons of functional milk proteins will be despatched to Chile. A consignment for the US market is also being prepared.
Arla Foods has assumed responsibility for the plant from APV-Nordic. 50 of the factory’s 76 positions have been taken up and the remainder will be filled soon.
”The transfer of production and service machinery from APV-Nordic means that we can now finalise the training of our new employees and employ the remaining personnel,” explains Factory Manager Finn Simonsen. ”We’re also working on the production and administrative routines.”
The new milk protein factory is part of a joint venture between Arla Foods and Argentina’s largest dairy company SanCor. The factory will process whey from SanCor’s 14 cheese dairies and is expected to sell 8,000-10,000 tons of milk proteins per annum. The whey will be processed into whey protein concentrate for the food and pharmaceutical industries.
