Staff at Grenå Dairy were informed on Thursday that the dairy will close on October 1, 2004 following a restructuring of Danish Blue production approved by Arla Foods’ Supervisory Board.
Subsequently all Danish Blue production will be gathered at Høgelund Dairy which will undergo a substantial expansion and renovation programme.
The programme comprises the addition of 8,700 m² floorspace and upgrading of the production and packaging facilities. This will increase capacity at Høgelund Dairy from 6,000 to 15,000 tons.
"Alongside a substantial increase in capacity, the Danish Blue project will result in a more flexible production structure and a significantly enhanced working environment,” said Executive Director Jens Refslund, the Production Division.
The expansion is expected to be completed in the summer of 2004 after which Grenå Dairy’s production of 5,000 tons will be transferred to Høgelund. The move affects approximately 50-60 people and is part of Arla Foods' strategy and structural plan announced in June 2001.
