Settle presents organic butter from UK milk

Press Release   •  Aug 30, 2002 09:08 CEST

Arla Foods has launched an organic butter made from British milk for the first time. The butter is being produced at Settle Dairy and supplied to two UK multiples in response to the “Buy British” stance adopted by some UK retailers. One example is the largest UK multiple Tesco’s decision to support UK organic producers by restricting its purchases of e.g. organic milk and butter to UK sourced products only.

Arla Foods has, for some time, supplied organic milk from its dairy in Hatfield Peverel north of London. Following a rigorous approval procedure, Settle is now also entitled to produce organic butter.

"We take some pride in being able to supply British organic butter – and, of course, in the fact that Settle meets the quality requirements of the multiples,” said Lotte Larsen, Product Manager, Butter, Arla Foods UK.

Settle Dairy’s organic butter is currently supplied to Tesco and Marks and Spencer as own label. Indeed, with regard to the latter, this is the first time for one of Arla Foods’ UK dairies to supply Marks and Spencer. Until now all Arla Foods’ organic butter has been made at Holstebro Dairy which has an annual butter production of 75,000 tons butter.
