On average, the Greeks eat 23.8 kg cheese per year while the French consume 23.7 kg.
Germany is third with an average of 20.9 kg, followed by Italy with 20.1 kg and Sweden with 17.2 kg. These countries are all among Arla Foods’ largest cheese markets.
Below Denmark’s 14.5 kg are the UK, Ireland, Spain and Portugal. With 8.3 kg per inhabitant per year, the latter has Europe’s smallest cheese consumption.
Japan - also one of Arla Foods’ largest cheese markets - has an average annual consumption of just 1.6 kg per inhabitant.
