UK dairy on schedule

Press Release   •   Aug 21, 2003 17:46 CEST

Stourton Dairy is set to become a flagship for Arla Foods in the UK.

Producing 250 million litres liquid milk per year, Stourton Dairy will be just as big as Oakthorpe Dairy outside London. The dairy will also be able to double capacity if required and will be more technically advanced than Arla Foods’ other dairies.

Stourton, on the outskirts of Leeds, will be sited next to Arla Foods’ national distribution centre commissioned just over one year ago.
Everything is proceeding according to plan, says Søren Høgh, who is responsible for the project’s administration and finance.

The end of June saw the construction of the steel framework which paves the way for the construction of the precast concrete and brick walls.

In November, Tetra Pak will start delivering pipes, tanks and machinery while in December, the Portuguese firm, Logoplastes, will install machinery for the production of plastic bottles. Like Hatfield Peverel and Oakthorpe, Stourton will have its own “plastic bottle factory”.

Next March, the German Krones will put in the dairy’s bottling machines.
