Two of Arla Foods’ dairies, Varde in Denmark and Götene in Sweden, are currently making preparations to pack Anchor, the New Zealand butter brand.
This new chapter in the history of the two dairies is a consequence of Arla Foods’ and the New Zealand Fonterra group’s joint venture for the sale of Anchor in the UK. The venture, which will come into effect from March 1, means that packing operations for Anchor will be transferred from Fonterra’s plant in Swindon, UK, to Varde and Götene.
Beginning March 1, Varde dairy’s current Lurpak butter production will relocate to Holstebro butter dairy in a process which is expected to be completed by June. Varde Dairy will then focus on packing Anchor while Götene will also process butter for blended products, again under the Anchor brand.
The transfer from Swindon, a total of 33,000 tons, is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Götene expects to employ a further 30 staff for Anchor production which is likely to amount to 10,000 tons per year.
