People often use the words company and business interchangeably and don’t really know that there is a difference between the two terms.
For somebody who isn’t a business owner, not knowing the difference between these two terms is not that important. But to someone who is an entrepreneur or is just starting out, knowing the difference between these two terms is essential.
There is a major difference between setting up a business and setting up a company. Basically, what it comes down to is difference in the financial and legal structures of the two.
When it comes to a business, the structure of it is easy to set up, and you don’t really need a lot of paperwork, and you don’t need a lot of money to set it up. People usually decide to go for registering a business when starting just because it is much simpler.
A company is very different. It is seen as a separate legal entity and the structure of it greatly differs from that of a business. It is more complicated, and it also needs you to invest greater amounts of money to set up. The benefit that comes with it is that you are more protected and you have more benefits as the owner. Registering a company also registers the name of the company which makes sure that no other company in the country can use the same name, or a name that is too similar. Structurally, a company is much more complex than a business. Some of the differences mean that the company must have one or more directors to run the company, and also shareholders that own the company, among other things.
It is not difficult to see why more people decide for a business structure. It is a lot less complicated to set up and you don’t need as much money to do it. However, a company offers you more protection in case there is larger field of influence. A good way to think about it would be that if you are not looking to greatly expand your work, a business structure should work fine. Otherwise, a company may be the right choice for you. Of course, there are experts in this field that you should definitely consult before deciding for one or the other. It’s essential that you get it right because it will determine the future of your ventures.
