Barclays Corporate has bolstered its oil and gas offering in Scotland with the appointment of Mike Kempton-Smith as Associate Director, Structured Asset Based Lending.
As a member of the bank’s growing sales finance team, Mike will cover the East of Scotland with a particular focus on the energy sector, working closely with Walter Cumming, Head of Oil and Gas.
Mike has extensive experience delivering deals in the corporate sector both in Scotland and the South East of England, and joins from RBS where he was Head of Strategic Development within the bank’s invoice finance business.
Walter Cumming, Head of Oil and Gas, Barclays Corporate, said: “Asset Based Lending is a means of providing flexible funding and Mike is a valuable addition to our team. He is extremely customer focused and builds lasting relationships, works closely with clients to understand their needs and will bring to them the quality financial solutions needed.”
Colin Walls, Head of Sales Finance in Scotland & Ireland, said: “It is important to have dedicated sales finance support for our Oil and Gas clients. We already have a great client offering in Aberdeen and Mike will only enhance our capabilities in this area.”
Earlier this year, Barclays Corporate announced plans to double the size of its business in Scotland by 2012. The company, which services clients with a turnover upwards of £5m or those requiring more than £3m of debt, is on track to grow its revenues by 50 per cent this year in Scotland.
Mike holds a BCom in Business Studies from the University of Edinburgh. Out of the office he is a loyal member of the Tartan Army, following the Scottish football team’s progress at home and, whenever possible, away. He also enjoys partaking in the beautiful game himself as well as playing golf.
