Giant Counter-Strike event can attract sought after IT talent to Greater Copenhagen

Giant Counter-Strike event can attract sought after it-talent to Greater Copenhagen

When the largest eSport tournament, Denmark has ever seen, is held in Copenhagen on the 25th of November, the public organization for investment promotion, Copenhagen Capacity, goes new ways to attract foreign it-developers to Greater Copenhagen.

50 % of all Danish companies had problems recruiting it-specialists in 2016. To change this statistic, Copenhagen Capacity is now collaborating with the organization RFRSH Entertainment that is hosting the giant eSport tournament ‘BLAST Pro Series’ in Copenhagen. A Counter-Strike event that will be watch by a local audience of 10.000 people, live streamed in 12 languages and transmitted in 14 countries with an anticipated audience of 10 million people worldwide.

“We have to be creative, if we want to attract the it-talents that the entire world is fighting for. When we collaborate with an event such as BLAST Pro Series, we can reach an international audience and introduce them to Greater Copenhagen as the North’s leading technology-hub. Therefore, I see great potential in working with similar events in the future”, says Louise Juhl, the marketing- and communications director of Copenhagen Capacity.

Counter-Strike fans might be associated with grumpy teenagers barricaded in their rooms. However, this is far from the whole picture. In fact, 73% of the users on the website Twitch (where BLAST Pro Series is livestreamed) are between 18-49. And Copenhagen Capacity knows that it-developers often use their spare-time on computer games from previous talent attraction campaigns. Therefore, Copenhagen Capacity expects to reach an audience of international it-, software- and game developers through the BLAST Pro Series-Tournament. An audience that will be introduced to Greater Copenhagen through a special gimmick.

During the BLAST Pro Series, the 10 million viewers will be encouraged to visit the website Codenhagen.io where visitors are challenged to answer fun facts about Greater Copenhagen. Or at least the tech-savvy visitors who can understand the clues written in coding-language. The gimmick is also connected to a brand-new website that introduces life as an it-developer in Greater Copenhagen and job openings in some of Greater Copenhagen’s biggest it-companies.

IT-giants participate in tech-campaign

20 Danish and Swedish it, - gaming- and software companies are looking for qualified talent through Copenhagen Capacity’s new campaign. Therefore, the campaign includes 46 job-openings in successful IT-companies such as Bootz, KMD, Sybo, Unity Technologies and Massive Entertainment.

Copenhagen Capacity has previously used digital campaigns to attract foreign talents, and with so good results that Greater Copenhagen won the price for ‘best branding strategy’ at the City Nation Brand Award earlier this month in London. The first digital campaign, about the gaming Industri in Greater Copenhagen, was watch 11 million times, while 1448 people applied for the 36 jobs made visible through a similar Fintech-campaign.
