Flight AF 463 Air France: “Mauritius stays a safe destination,” says Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism and External Communications

December 21st 2015, Upon his arrival this morning, the Deputy Prime Minister, Xavier-Luc Duval, Minister of Tourism and External Communications met with high-ranking officials of airport security and civil aviation regarding the incident which occurred on the AF 463 Mauritius/Paris flight. It has been confirmed that the suspicious package contains only paper materials which are neither dangerous nor detectable.


The set of security measures at the airport was reviewed and it was confirmed that all the procedures relating to security have been scrupulously followed. The DPM noted with satisfaction that the statement made by the Executive Director of Air France also refers to the same.

The new terminal at SSR International Airport, built two years ago, is equipped with state-of-the-art technology such as CCTV, explosive trace detection, CT scanners for bags and luggage, X-Ray and also sniffer dogs.


The Mauritian and French authorities are seriously investigating this case in order to retrace the author(s) of this irresponsible act which carries a severe sentence.


Mauritius remains above all a very safe destination and Government is sparing no effort to ensure the security of its citizens and tourists alike.
