Deflamo receives new largest order - 5 tons Apyrum

Press Releases   •   Feb 17, 2015 14:06 GMT

Malmo, Sweden, February 17, 2015

Deflamo receives new largest order - 5 tons Apyrum

The Swedish company Deflamo AB, which develops, produces and markets environmentally friendly flame retardants under the product name Apyrum, has received its largest order to date. The order this time is for 5 tons, representing approximately 80 % of last year's total sales volumes. The order relates to a PVC application and the customer's total potential for Apyrum exceeding 100 tons per year.

The customer chose Apyrum to offer an environmentally friendly option that is biodegradable and harmless to humans and nature.

"We are delighted to have another major order which prove the attractiveness of Apyrum for key customers in our target segments. It is very encouraging that in recent months purposeful marketing efforts are producing results and a further proof that the company's sales strategy is successful," says Magnus Jörsmo, CEO Deflamo.

With increasing awareness of the potential environmental and health hazards with various additives in plastics, many companies search for environmentally friendly solutions. In Deflamo cases, this involves replacing conventional flame retardants with Apyrum, an environmentally friendly product that offers flame retardant properties equal to at least highly contested products used until now.

    Deflamo and NRC Extend Partnership

    Press Releases   •   Oct 01, 2014 12:05 GMT

Deflamo, the Swedish producer of natural flame retardant Apyrum, and Nordmann, Rassmann GmbH (NRC), based in Hamburg Germany, have agreed to continue their partnership and agreement to include Apyrum in NRCs portfolio of specialty chemicals. The cooperation enables Deflamo to greatly expand its market presence thanks to NRCs expertise in the field of flame retardants and extensive customer base, and strengthens NRCs product portfolio with a high-performing and environmentally superior solution available directly from its warehouses in Germany.

The Flame Retardants department of Polymer and Polymer Additives - NRC’s business unit - handles a large volume of flame retardants for distribution to a substantial customer base across Germany and other European countries. NRC initiated the cooperation with Deflamo due to Apyrum’s unique environmental properties, which diversifies and strengthens not only NRC’s product portfolio of flame retardants, but the business area as a whole.

Apyrum is a perfect addition to our range of flame retardants. Many customers are now asking for environmentally friendly products, and as a responsible supplier it is our duty to respond. Currently our focus is on Apyrum for the plastics industry, and we have initiated lab tests with a number of large companies in the field. We see a great opportunity to continue working with Deflamosays Ralf Meier, Business Manager at Nordmann, Rassman GmbH.

CEO of Deflamo Magnus Jörsmo comments, “The cooperation with NRC means we not only benefit from their deep competence within sales and distribution of specialty chemicals, but also get a faster inroad to, and better coverage of, important markets”.

Major investment in cone calorimeter and laboratory two roll mill leads to faster and cheaper testing and development

    Press Releases   •   Sep 18, 2014 08:27 GMT

Deflamo, a Swedish company developing and manufacturing eco-friendly flame retardant products under the brand name Apyrum, has completed the laboratory investment as previously announced; a cone calorimeter and a laboratory two roll mill with a total value of SEK 1.1 million.

A cone calorimeter measures a material's flammability and thus the effect of various flame retardants, and the laboratory two roll mill allows Deflamo to produce plastics with Apyrum inside, in-house. The new equipment will reduce the time for development considerably, both for Deflamo as well as its customers, and is expected to be installed and ready for use end of September.

Purchasing fire tests via external institutes often range from 2000 to 5 000 euros and may, in addition to the cost, delay the development process heavily; in some cases up to several months. With the equipment available in Deflamo’s own laboratory, fire tests can be carried out without the need to use external suppliers and thus significantly shorten the time for development.

"With the new cone calorimeter will we be able to carry out our own fire tests according to the international standard ISO 5660 and others, and the laboratory two roll mill will allow us to speed up both internal development processes as well as customer projects," says Magnus Jörsmo, CEO of Deflamo.

DEFLAMO: Major Investment in Test Equipment Speeds Up Development Cycle and Creates Unique Position

    Press Releases   •   May 12, 2014 12:40 GMT

DEFLAMO, a company developing and manufacturing eco-friendly flame retardant products under the brand name Apyrum, has decided to make a strategic investment in the company’s laboratory equipment. The investment consists of the purchase of a cone calorimeter for studying small samples of material in order to determine their flammability and a laboratory two roll mill used for producing plastic film. The mill makes it possible for DEFLAMO to produce different batches of plastic material for in-house testing.

The cone calorimeter enables DEFLAMO to carry out standardized fire testing according to the international standard ISO 5660, whereby a sample of material is exposed to heat, after which information is gathered regarding time to ignition, heat release rate, gas composition and other critical parameters that are vital to the development of flame retardant products.

The new laboratory two roll mill will allow DEFLAMO to produce different types of plastic film for testing with Apyrum flame retardants. This means that DEFLAMO can speed up application development considerably, both for it's own research as well as for customer projects.

DEFLAMO is now one of few flame retardant companies, perhaps the only one in Europe, that has amassed this type of testing capacity. The new equipment, together with existing laboratory testing equipment, means that DEFLAMO now holds a unique market position and is well equipped for the rapid development of applications for fire retardation.

    Time is Money

To be competitive on the flame retardant market, it is not enough to have an eco-friendly product with equivalent or better performance and total cost than other commonly used harmful alternatives. It also requires having capacity to be able to quickly develop materials for use in production.

"The new equipment, together with close cooperation with customers, will make the optimization of Apyrum-based applications easier, faster, and more exact. This will ensure that the customer obtains the right performance at the right price. By investing in the cone calorimeter and the two roll mill, DEFLAMO will be able to reduce the development time of new projects as well as the lead time for deliveries," says Magnus Jörsmo, CEO of DEFLAMO AB.
