Deflamo and NRC Extend Partnership

Press Releases   •   Oct 01, 2014 12:05 GMT

Deflamo, the Swedish producer of natural flame retardant Apyrum, and Nordmann, Rassmann GmbH (NRC), based in Hamburg Germany, have agreed to continue their partnership and agreement to include Apyrum in NRCs portfolio of specialty chemicals. The cooperation enables Deflamo to greatly expand its market presence thanks to NRCs expertise in the field of flame retardants and extensive customer base, and strengthens NRCs product portfolio with a high-performing and environmentally superior solution available directly from its warehouses in Germany.

The Flame Retardants department of Polymer and Polymer Additives - NRC’s business unit - handles a large volume of flame retardants for distribution to a substantial customer base across Germany and other European countries. NRC initiated the cooperation with Deflamo due to Apyrum’s unique environmental properties, which diversifies and strengthens not only NRC’s product portfolio of flame retardants, but the business area as a whole.

Apyrum is a perfect addition to our range of flame retardants. Many customers are now asking for environmentally friendly products, and as a responsible supplier it is our duty to respond. Currently our focus is on Apyrum for the plastics industry, and we have initiated lab tests with a number of large companies in the field. We see a great opportunity to continue working with Deflamosays Ralf Meier, Business Manager at Nordmann, Rassman GmbH.

CEO of Deflamo Magnus Jörsmo comments, “The cooperation with NRC means we not only benefit from their deep competence within sales and distribution of specialty chemicals, but also get a faster inroad to, and better coverage of, important markets”.

Deflamo is a specialty chemical company that develops, produces, and markets the environmentally-friendly flame retardant Apyrum for the manufacturing industry and service companies in Europe.

Apyrum is a patented, environmentally-friendly, and biologically degradable flame retardant that is competitive in industrial use. Today Deflamo cooperates with industrial companies that manufacture products made from plastic, paper, wood, and other materials used in construction, vehicles, electronics, etc. where high demands are made on fire protection, the environment, safety, and health. Apyrum replaces hazardous flame retardants that contain, for example, bromide, chlorine, antimony, boron, and phosphate esters with substances that are not harmful to health and the environment.

Deflamo is a Swedish corporation listed on the equities market Aktietorget. It owns the patent for Apyrum's environmentally-friendly flame retardant technology for Europe and part of Asia, an area that contains a third of the world market for flame retardants. Deflamo's operations include development, production, marketing, and sales. A central part of the sales process is technical project management, and together with the customer, Deflamo helps to develop, evaluate, and optimize their manufacturing processes related to flame retardation technology.

Major investment in cone calorimeter and laboratory two roll mill leads to faster and cheaper testing and development

Press Releases   •   Sep 18, 2014 08:27 GMT

Deflamo, a Swedish company developing and manufacturing eco-friendly flame retardant products under the brand name Apyrum, has completed the laboratory investment as previously announced; a cone calorimeter and a laboratory two roll mill with a total value of SEK 1.1 million.

A cone calorimeter measures a material's flammability and thus the effect of various flame retardants, and the laboratory two roll mill allows Deflamo to produce plastics with Apyrum inside, in-house. The new equipment will reduce the time for development considerably, both for Deflamo as well as its customers, and is expected to be installed and ready for use end of September.

Purchasing fire tests via external institutes often range from 2000 to 5 000 euros and may, in addition to the cost, delay the development process heavily; in some cases up to several months. With the equipment available in Deflamo’s own laboratory, fire tests can be carried out without the need to use external suppliers and thus significantly shorten the time for development.

"With the new cone calorimeter will we be able to carry out our own fire tests according to the international standard ISO 5660 and others, and the laboratory two roll mill will allow us to speed up both internal development processes as well as customer projects," says Magnus Jörsmo, CEO of Deflamo.
