Legendary New Order will play NorthSide
This summer one of the world's most prominent indie bands will return to Aarhus for the first time in 32 years
For four decades, New Order has been one of the world's most influential bands and have managed to combine numerous hits and success among critics with inspiring acts like Radiohead, Pet Shop Boys, The Killers, LCD Soundsystem, and Arcade Fire. New Order has since 1981 released more than 40 singles, and songs like "Blue Monday", "True Faith", "World in Motion", "Regret", and "Crystal" are just a handful of huge hits that are classics today. The seminal band has over the years been high on festival audience’s wish list, and now it has finally been possible to add legendary New Order to the headliners at NorthSide.
The story of the New Order starts in 1976 with the formation of Joy Division. But only three years after Ian Curtis' tragic death in 1980, his colleagues from the Joy Division could celebrate the release of the best-selling 12" single of all-time. With "Blue Monday", New Order had definitely left their dark past behind and marked themselves as one of the most important bands in the new wave of acts that blended rock with electronic music. Since then, Bernard Sumner and the rest of the New Order have released dozens of hits and marked themselves as an impressive and highly sought after act.
- New Order has been very high on the wish list for NorthSide for a long time, and we are really happy that they are now finally on the poster. It is also a band very much in demand among our guests, and you might actually say that they are the perfect NorthSide band. If you ask former headliners such as Radiohead, Arcade Fire, or The Stone Roses about their sources of inspiration, they will all mention New Order, which emphasizes how important a band New Order has been over the last four decades. The band has a ton of classics on the setlist, and since New Order has not played in Aarhus since 1987, we think it is high time for a new visit, says spokesman for NorthSide, John Fogde.
New Order will play NorthSide 2019 on Friday June 7th.
After today's release, the preliminary program for NorthSide 2019 is as follows: Alice in Chains, Bon Iver, Cautious Clay, First Aid Kit, Foals, Georgia, Gnags, Jada, Jonah Blacksmith Film Concert, Kaytranada, Khalid, Kurt Vile & The Violators, L.O.C. , Lydmor, Major Lazer, Migos, The Minds of 99, New Order, Peter Sommer & Tiggerne, The Streets, Suspekt, Tame Impala, and Tove Lo.
