Migos and Tame Impala for NorthSide
The popular rap trio and the psychedelic rock band are added to the poster along with six other fantastic acts including First Aid Kit and Kurt Vile & the Violators
The line-up for NorthSide 2019 is really beginning to take form, and the latest additions are a really strong mix of indie and singer/songwriter acts mixed with urban/rap stars, and a truly unique show with legendary local heroes, Gnags.
Atlanta has one of the strongest hip-hop scenes in the world, and the latest success story from The ATL is the trio Migos. Takeoff, Quavo, and Offset have in their short career already been behind two sensational tracks that have given them attention far beyond the traditional hip-hop world. The first was "Look at My Dab", which brought dabbing from Atlanta’s underground scene and out to the masses to the point, where Hillary Clinton, Emmanuel Macron, and Prince Sverre of Norway jumped on the bandwagon. Later, "Bad and Boujee" hit the top of the American chart and was such a phenomenon that Donald "Childish Gambino" Glover thanked the trio, when he received a Golden Globe for his TV-series "Atlanta".
Migos will release the album "Culture III" in early 2019, and not surprisingly, the band's fourth album is among the year's most hyped releases. When Migos hits Aarhus this summer, it will not only be the trio's first visit to a Danish festival, but potentially also the rowdiest show the venue has ever seen.
Migos will play Friday 7th of June at NorthSide 2019
Kevin Parker went from critical darling to superstardom, when Tame Impala released the album "Currents" in 2015. Songs like "Cause I'm a Man", "Eventually", and "The Less I Know the Better" are still solid fixtures on indie-rock playlists, and "Let It Happen" was just chosen for a large advertising campaign for an American car brand. The band is no less impressive, when they reveal their psychedelic sound and visuals on the biggest stages around the world. So the impressive stage presence bundled together with the huge expectations of the band's upcoming album makes it no surprise that Tame Impala were chosen to headline the hugely popular Coachella festival. But there is no reason to go to California this year. Tame Impala has been high on the wish list among NorthSide guests, and now they will finally get to see them in Aarhus.
Tame Impala will play Thursday 6th of June at NorthSide 2019
Strong songwriting and inspiration from a classic American sound connect First Aid Kit and Kurt Vile & the Violators, and through the years both have visited Denmark with great success for sold-out and critically acclaimed concerts. None of them, however, have previously visited NorthSide. But since both acts came out with really strong releases in 2018, the timing for a debut visit is absolutely perfect.
Both First Aid Kit and Kurt Vile & the Violators will play Saturday 8th of June at NorthSide 2019
Kaytranada only has one album in the discography, but "99.9%" is such a strong release that the man behind the moniker, Louis Kevin Celestin, was able to pick up both a Polaris Music Prize and a Juno Award for his debut album. On the album, the Canadian producer was helped by acts like Craig David, Anderson.Paak, Syd, and Little Dragon, who helped Kaytranada blend his electronic elements with funk, soul, and hip-hop.
English artist Georgia started her music career as a drummer for Kate Tempest, but was also invited to sing on Leftfield's album "Alternative Light Source" (Georgia is the daughter of Neil Barnes from Leftfield), before releasing her own debut album. Here, she drew on her background in electronic music and mixed it with American hip-hop like Missy Elliott and Ludacris and added a little North London attitude. Georgia is blowing up right now, because of the single "Started Out", which is a really intriguing preview of the upcoming album.
Kaytranada will play Thursday 6th of June, while Georgia will play Saturday 8th of June at NorthSide 2019
The last two acts in this round of announcements are taken from the Danish music scene. We welcome back Peter Sommer & Tiggerne, who impressively made people forget the rain for a while in 2017 at an excellent concert that received five stars from Soundvenue. Since then, the excellent "Elskede At Drømme, Drømmer Om At Elske" was released to massive praise and was subsequently nominated for an impressive five Steppeulven awards.
Peter Sommer is joined by one of Aarhus' most iconic acts ever - Gnags. The band behind ”Vilde kaniner”, ”Mr. Swing King”, ”Den dejligste morgen”, ”Slingrer ned ad Vestergade”, and a myriad of other hits has for decades delivered some of the most festive and engaging concerts in Denmark. They always come to start a party, and when they hit Ådalen for the first time it will be a special and completely unique show with guests and surprises made for the occasion.
Peter Sommer & Tiggerne will play Saturday 8th of June, while Gnags will play Friday 7th of June at NorthSide 2019
