Verner Panton was one of the most colourful designers of the 20th century and a source of inspiration to architects and designers in the textile, furniture, and interior decoration fields. Verner Panton was also a good friend of Peter J. Lassen, the founder and designer behind the Montana company where these iconic designs are made today: Panton One, Panton Bachelor, Panton Wire, and Panton Table.
On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Panton One, Montana have launched three new colours for the Panton One frame and for Panton Wire: Black, Snow, and Moulin Rouge.
Montana and Verner Panton
The collaboration between Peter and Verner was based on solid mutual respect and a shared passion for design driven by shapes, creativity, and functionality - and not least an approach to colours unique to its time and a great inspiration for the development of the Montana universe of colours through the years.
Panton's strong passion for colours is, indeed, one of the motivators for Montana's introduction of select Panton designs featuring new frame colours. The designs: Panton One and Panton Wire, now also available with frames in the colours: Black, Snow, and Moulin Rouge. The choice of these specific colours is explained by Joakim Lassen, CEO, Montana:
"The colours Black and Snow are pretty self-explanatory; they are uncomplicated in use and go well together. Moulin Rouge is very spot on Verner Panton who was very fond of red and orange – he would have appreciated the Moulin Rouge."
Verner and Peter not only shared a work relation, they were also close personal friends. In terms of work, they were an unique duo, with Peter representing the production technology insights, marketing and sales, and Verner delivering the creative design concepts. The strong bond and shared history make it a natural choice for Peter J. Lassen, and now his son, Joakim Lassen, to adopt several Verner Panton designs as an integral part of the Montana product range.
The particular Verner Panton language
Panton One, Panton Table, Panton Bachelor, and Panton Wire have become classics in the Montana product range:
The lightness of the simple Panton One chair complements any architectural style. The seat and back have been hand braided with 90 - 130 metres of string, and the 15 different string colours can be freely combined with the three new frame colours or the stainless steel frame which is also suitable for outdoor use. You can make your own choice, classic and timeless or colourful and vibrant. In the words of Verner Panton: "You sit more comfortably on a colour you like."
The Panton Wire cube is ultra-flexible and can be used as a single module or combined to an elegant, light bookcase or room divider. It can be placed on the floor or mounted on the wall.
In combination, the designs speak in that particular Panton language in which function, flexibility, and aesthetics create a fluent whole.
Montana Møbler A/S produces and supplies storage and shelving systems, tables, and chairs for homes and modern office environments. The Montana shelving system is designed by Peter J. Lassen. The flexible modular system and the inspiring colour palette offer freedom to create your own personal room and to personalize your style.
