The international mobile company Research In Motion (RIM), manufacturers of BlackBerry, now targets the Scandinavian market for Smartphones. To launch their campaign they have become the new main sponsor for Øredev, a developer conference held in Malmö, Sweden. This is the only conference in Scandinavia that RIM will be attending.
- We are utterly pleased that they have singled us out as the most important meeting place in Scandinavia, says Michael Tiberg, CEO at Øredev. To us, this is a sign that our work has gained a good reputation within the business.
The market for Smartphones has expanded rapidly during the last years. In the second quarter of 2010 the sales in Sweden were up 411 percent compared to the same period the previous year. In Scandinavia Smartphones now make out about 40 percent of the total mobile phone market. While Blackberry have been market leaders in The United States they are still a small player in Scandinavia.
- There is growing competition in this segment from Android and iPhone with many more to come. The key to success is user friendly software and applications. We provide the companies with an opportunity to meet up with some of the finest application developers in the world.
At Øredev RIM will display their latest products as well as offering developers to delve deeper into the BlackBerry platform. Other leading Smartphone platforms such as iPhone, Android, Nokia's Qt and Windows Phone 7 will also stage presentations during the conference.
