Video-on-demand service Voddler just launched an Android-app that gives film viewers direct access to both rental and Direct Play-movies from Voddler’s catalog on Android smart phones and tablets. The app is free to download on Android Market. With it, Voddler adds yet another viewing window for Voddler’s films, adding to the existing web service and iPhone-app
- With the iPhone-app, we liked to say that we opened a cinema in your pocket. Now, with the Android-app we open even more cinemas in even more pockets. It adds another window from which you can see movies and TV-series from the “Voddler cloud”, says Anders Sjöman, head of communication at Voddler.
The Voddler app is free to download from Android Market. Just go to Android Market on your Android device, search for “Voddler” and install the app. The app is also available online: search for “Voddler” at https://market.android.com.
- Of course, with more viewing windows, seamless transition between windows becomes a core feature. That’s why you, for instance, can start watching a Voddler movie on your mobile phone on your way home, and then when you get home to your computer or your web-connected TV, you can then pick up exactly where you left off, continues Anders Sjöman.
The Voddler Android app is free, does not require any subscription, and all movies are shown over both mobile networks and WiFi-connections. The films available for viewing in the app come from Voddler’s growing catalog of over 4 500 titles, and consists of both rental titles and ad-funded free titles. At launch, Voddler has activated over 200 titles for mobile viewing, and new titles will be added on a regular basis.
From a revenue perspective, the app gives advertisers the possibility of showing full-scale commercials directly on mobile handsets, just like Voddler’s iPhone-app already does for Apple customers. As always on Voddler, commercials are shown right before the main feature begins, but never during the film itself.
- When we launched the iPhone-app this spring, our daily views doubled. Our experience since then show that ads before a movie is seen as something natural and non-invasive also on the mobile. This gives advertisers the chance to place commercials in a mobile phone in an efficient way that doesn’t disturb the viewer, says Oskar Boding, head of sales at Voddler.
The new Android-app replaces the “planning app” that Voddler has had on Android Market until now.
