The video was directed by Ben and Ryan and longtime collaborator, director, Jason Koenig. It was filmed over the course of one week in Ryan’s hometown of Spokane, Washington. It stars Macklemore, Eric Nally, Grandmaster Caz, Kool Moe Dee and Melle Mel along with thousands of extras. The full-scale production shut down the central business district of Spokane to make way for street dancing, moped racing, parades complete with giant balloon animals and much, much more.
Choreography was by Massive Monkees, an internationally recognized Seattle-based B Boy Crew. Macklemore’s clothing was custom-made by designer Logan Neitzel, the man responsible for many of Macklemore’s iconic looks. Additional styling for the video was provided by Lucky Vintage.
“Downtown” is the first single from Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’s follow up to their multiple GRAMMY Award winning, platinum selling debut album ‘The Heist.’ Album cut, “Growing Up (Sloane’s Song)” featuring Ed Sheeran was released earlier this month. The song is quickly climbing the charts at radio, it was the #5 most added song on Top 40 and #2 most added at Rhythmic the week it was released. “Growing Up” was written before the birth of Macklemore’s first child and is dedicated to his daughter Sloane Ava Simone Haggerty. Stay tuned for more details on the forthcoming album.
