At the end of 2016, ExproSoft announced the acquisition of Miriam and its premier simulation tool Miriam RAM Studio. But what is it, and how does it fit with the WellMaster software suite?
Miriam RAM Studio is a cloud-based production performance simulation tool for the oil & gas and process industries. Using Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability (RAM) analysis, Miriam compares alternatives for increased productivity, estimates expected cost and downtime each year of operation, and computes the influence of an individual item in the loss of production. In other words, Miriam RAM Studio improves process environments and increases the bottom line.
Miriam RAM Studio for the oil & gas industry
Several major oil & gas operators already use Miriam RAM Studio to:
- Estimate CAPEX and OPEX for new field developments and plants
- Evaluate planned modifications of fields and plants
- Maintenance planning of wells, subsea, topside, and process systems
The powerful simulation capabilities enable the operators to optimize availability vs costs, and achieve significant reductions in CAPEX and OPEX. Since the solution is cloud-based, the RAM models may be accessed by the oil & gas operator, consultants, and engineering office alike. Furthermore, the models are securely stored and may be modified according to actual events as the field/plant enters operation.
WellMaster and Miriam RAM Studio
WellMaster and Miriam RAM Studio have clear benefits to oil & gas operators as standalone products. By combining the two, operators can improve failure and downtime prediction of well and subsea systems, and conduct maintenance optimization throughout the complete value chain.
The key benefit to the “marriage” of the two systems is the combination of a reliability model and reliability data. Too often we see operators struggle with one or the other, when you truly need both in order to get actionable results. Conducting RAM analytics on incorrect data gives false forecasts, and quality data provides greater value when modelled in a system analysis.
The first product to come out of the integration is the WellMaster Simulator – an application that will help oil & gas operators accurately predict well interventions, downtime, and expenses (OPEX) for both new field developments and fields in operations. Within minutes, the simulator provides results based on planned maintenance scheme, duration, and cost, and allows for comparison of both well designs and maintenance plans.
