Hanken & SSE Executive Education initiates new learning venture in Singapore to support companies in strategy transformation

Press release   •   Feb 07, 2017 09:10 EET

Singapore 7 February 2017 – The executive program called SMASH – Strategies for Market Shaping, started today in Singapore with participants from many different companies, Aktia Bank, Comptel, K. Hartwall, Normet Group, Tamro and Uponor among others. The program combines executive education, an experimental digital clinic, benchmarking and an agile growth project. This new type of initiative gives participating company executives expertise from global top players such as IBM, and hands on tools to help create growth and profit as well as drive renewal of business models created by market innovation and disruption.

The program is built upon years of international academic research conducted by Program Directors Professor Kaj Storbacka and Associate Professor Suvi Nenonen at the University of Auckland Business School. The program will run virtually as well as through a series of modules on 3 continents offered in Singapore, Silicon Valley and ending in Helsinki on the 30th of August 2017.

The ultimate goal of market shaping is to actively modify and build new markets, customers and users around one’s business while bravely crossing industry borders. The phenomenon can be seen across the world, where companies expand their business into completely new unforeseen territories outside of where they regularly operate. The central dimension of the phenomenon is the opportunities enabled by digitalization. In strategy it means a new approach that questions the traditional markets driven thinking and planning. In the market shaping approach it is more vital to create the future in the now rather than trying to forecast and foresee it. To find growth, expanding ecosystems and blurring industry lines is key for considerable growth spurts.

“With this initiative we strive to create a completely new concept both in executive education as well as in strategic thinking overall”, says Sari Salojärvi, CEO of Hanken & SSE Executive Education. “We want to help companies to think big and bravely take action, Sari Salojärvi continues.
