According to a survey carried out by the Tampere Region Economic Development Agency Tredea, the foreign-owned companies that are located in the Tampere Region have originally moved here and want to stay here because of the amount of skilled workforce, and the fact that the people are most likely going to stay in the area for a long time. The city's central location in Finland was another factor the companies appreciated.
In the spring of 2013, Tampere Region Economic Development Agency Tredea asked 75 foreign-owned companies located in the Tampere Region: what are the reasons they decided to locate their business here and why they wanted to stay. The survey was carried out by email and phone. 32 businesses answered the survey, which comprised solely out of open-ended questions.
The most important reason why the companies located to the Tampere Region, and for staying here, was the availability of competent workforce and its stability. 50% of the respondents said workforce was the biggest thing affecting their decision to locate here and 65,4% stated that was the reason to stay here. After workforce, what attracted the companies here was the region's logistic location and transport connections (this reason was a factor for 28% of the companies who located here, and of the companies who wanted to stay here, this was a factor for 40,6% of them). Other reasons for locating and staying here were, among others, the privileges of a university city, proximity of the clientele and competitive level of costs.
