Sadako had to because of illness, hospitalization, and he was expected to die within a year. At the hospital visited her best friend, which made her a gift origami , folded paper crane.

Japanese legend says that anyone who folds a thousand paper cranes, wish will come true.
Inspired by this, Sadako began to fold cranes to heal herself, and according to legend, he managed to fold 644 paper cranes before perishing disease. His friend folded the rest of the cranes up to a thousand, and the event was significant for children and the core anti-war peace movement of young people.
