Loneliness is the worst thing about being single!

It’s clear that loneliness is the hardest thing about not having a partner. According to a survey Firstdate conducted among its more than one million members, it was found that 65% feel that loneliness is the worst thing about being single. Next is a lack of sexual activity which 23% state as a reason for why companionship is better. Being judged by others, economic reasons, and having to go to events alone account for the remaining 12%.

“No one likes being alone. Humans need to be surrounded by other people, and to feel secure in having someone special who they can turn to, such as a partner to love,” explains Christ Engleus, CEO of Firstdate International AB.

It may seem paradoxical, but in today’s increasingly more connected world, the feeling of loneliness actually increases. In an age where careers, gadgets and status take over as major aspects of our lives, the task of falling in love is neglected and it isn’t until later in life that we discover our desire to share the future with a partner.

Every day, Firstdate is visited by over 100,000 members from across the Nordic region, and right now has over 1,000,000 members. The survey was conducted by Firstdate in summer 2013.
