Mathias Dahlgren to close Matsalen and Matbordet

Mathias Dahlgren’s restaurants Matsalen and Matbordet at the Grand Hôtel in Stockholm will be serving their last meals on December 22, 2016. Thereafter, the premises will be undergoing an extensive renovation, making way for a completely new restaurant endeavour.

”After many fun, tough and successful years it’s time to do something new. Come 2017, Matsalen would have been in operation for 10 years and I have a strong desire to create a completely new restaurant. Right now we are experiencing an interesting development in Swedish restaurant culture and I want to continue to play an active part in that. But first, over the next four months, we will see to it that Matsalen and Matbordet close at the top of their game,” says Mathias Dahlgren.

Mathias Dahlgren opened Matsalen at the Grand Hôtel in 2007. Since then, the restaurant has enjoyed major success. After just nine months it was awarded its first star in the Michelin Guide, to which a second star was added the year after. The restaurant was developed successively over the following ten years, not least with the establishment of Matbordet in 2014.

“It’s important for us to constantly update our restaurant offerings – so that they not only maintain the highest international standards but also that our guests find them innovative and interesting. We are therefore pleased about Mathias’s decision to close Matsalen and Matbordet to develop a new restaurant with a completely new concept,” saysPia Djupmark, CEO, Grand Hôtel.

Mathias Dahlgren’s new restaurant at the Grand Hôtel is expected to open during the first quarter of 2017. Mathias Dahlgren’s Matbaren will not change and will continue to operate according to the current concept.
