Lisa and Linnéa awarded prize for their environmental work

At a ceremony at the University of Gävle on 26 April, Lisa Johansson and Linnéa Löfquist were awarded a prize of 7500 SEk each by Gästrikeregionen Miljö.

Amazing, fun years

Lisa Johansson has studied the environmental engineering programme at the University of Gävle, and she is very pleased with the programme.

“The programme was fairly wide in its scope, which was good as I wasn’t quite sure about what to specialise in. Not until I was out on the field during my Co-op period (the programme involves long periods of practical work in one company) did I make up my mind. I was later employed by that company.”

Lisa thinks that the tutoring and support from the University when she completed her degree project were good.

Linnéa Löfquist studied the programme in industrial design, and she feels that she gained valuable knowledge and understanding for how she as a designer can work for a sustainable society.

“Those three years were great fun with many interesting projects where you could be creative and work a lot with your hands,” Linnéa Löfquist says.

Recognition

To Lisa, the prize means that her project is given recognition and it means a lot. Her project focused on providing Gävle Municipality with environmental considerations on choosing locations for a snow deposit, considerations other municipalities can use as well.

Linnéa is very grateful and proud of having been awarded the prize.

“Above all, the prize confirms the fact that others also see and appreciate the visons I developed in my degree project” Linnéa says.

Both students were employed directly on graduation

Today, Lisa Johansson works at Tyréns within urban and social planning, with a focus on contaminated areas.

Linnéa Löfquist works at Superfront, a home design company, but she is also starting up her own business and workshop to manufacture her own products.

On 26 April, at a ceremony at the University of Gävle, the prize was awarded by Birgitta Stymne, chair of the foundation and former vice-chancellor of the University of Gävle.

The research foundation “Gästrikeregionens Miljö”

Together with Gästrike återvinnare and SUEZ, the University of Gävle established the research foundation Gästrikeregionens Miljö more than a decade ago.

The foundation initiates, supports and stimulates cross-disciplinary research and development projects. The projects selected might concern methods and technology for waste treatment, consumer behaviour and information etcetera.

The foundation Gästrikeregionens Miljö also draws attention to students who in their degree projects contribute to its area of activity and to sustainable development.
