The main hub is Guangdong province that accounted for half of national footwear production and one-third of the world production. Low cost of Chinese footwear forced many countries to impose anti-dumping duties to protect their domestic footwear industry. In 2010, shoes exports from the Guangdong province touched US$ 12.9 Billion marking, a much higher growth than the previous year. It exported 960 Million pairs of shoes, which is an increase by 16.5% in the first quarter of 2010 over the previous year. In terms of value, footwear export increased by 7.7% to US$ 2.59 Billion during the same quarter. However in March, export fell by 22.2% to 260 Million pairs due to the weak demand and restrictive trade policies.
Demand for China footwear has continued to witness rapid growth over the last few years, owing to inherent advantage in price.
