Social recruitment startup, TribeHired, recently ran a youth hiring event partnered with and hosted by Universiti Malaya (UM), with the objective of getting fresh young talent hired in companies that fit them, within a few days.
The event was split into two days - with day one dedicated for mentoring talent to develop pitches for interviews and day two being the hiring event. Participants were able to hone their interview skills through a panel of mentors assembled by TribeHired and pitch themselves to companies in the most unique way they could.
Mr Cr.Surenthiran Pillai (Psychology Officer, Division of Student Affairs, UM) concluded that, “University of Malaya is more than happy to have partnered with Tribehired on bringing forth the event as it proved to be trendsetter and a benchmark for many more to come!”
The initiative was born as a result of feedback from employers in various industries about the current state of fresh talent. Devan Singaram, Founder and CEO of TribeHired.com reveals that “the articulation of thoughts is a nagging problem with fresh graduates and the event was about building a social community that helps students understand that finding a job is not a lonely process; that there are people out there willing to aid you land that dream job.”
From roughly 700 fresh graduates that signed up from across 12 Universities in Malaysia, only 75 participants were finalized. Not only did these finalists qualify for the jobs being offered but they were also passionate and hungry to grab those opportunities.
Ajay Singh Sangwan, Operations Manager of TribeHired.com believes that “not only did the event inspire raw-young talent to be industry ready, but it also embarked a change in the way hiring takes place in Malaysia.”
