China and Jade Rabbit: On a roll

The Chang’e 3 moon lander touched down at 1311 GMT in the northern area of Mare Imbrium, shortly followed by the unmanned Yutu (lit. Jade Rabbit) rover rolling out on its six wheels onto the lunar surface. 

With this, the spacecraft had completed the first soft landing on the Moon since the Soviet Union's Lunar-24 in 1976, and China becomes only the third country to do so following the Soviets and United States.
