Almost 20 minutes after liftoff, the Chang'e 3 probe separated from the Long March rocket and ignited its main engine, sending it into an Earth-Moon transfer trajectory.
Chang’e 3 is a lunar exploration mission which includes a lander and a 120kg solar-powered robotic lunar rover, known as Yutu, or "Jade Rabbit". Chang’e 3 will attempt China's first soft landing of the moon, and the first by any country since the 1970s. The landing is scheduled for mid-December.
