A Beijing newspaper on Monday blamed the Syrian government and opposition forces for a deadly attack in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in China's northwest.
Huanqiu, the Chinese-language version of the Global Times, a tabloid under the auspices of the People's Daily - the official newspaper of China's ruling Communist Party - wrote that a suspect arrested over the attack that saw 35 people killed had been involved in the conflict in Syria.
According to Chinese state media, the attack on Wednesday was launched by a group of terrorists in Lukqun township, Turpan prefecture, with dead including 11 suspected terrorists. Earlier reports put the death toll at 27.
