The Federation of Finnish Technology Industries and the Port of Helsinki signed the Demo2013 project cooperation agreement in Helsinki on 7 December 2011.

On a global scale, the Demo2013 project is a completely unique long-term field test of energy-efficient, emission-free and noise-free fuel cell applications. The location selected is the Vuosaari Harbour Centre, because a significant proportion of the applications are very well suited to the harbour environment.

The project highlights the results of the Fuel Cells programme of Tekes (the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation) in a unified and diverse area of application. Applications at the Harbour Centre will include, for example, Wärtsilä’s 50 kW fuel cell power plant that uses natural gas as fuel for the production of electricity and heat, work machines for materials handling, a UPS back-up power module for a telecommunications base station, and a hydrogen refuelling station at Woikoski. At the end of the project, the various fuel cell applications will be in simultaneous operation for the latter part of 2013.

Demo2013 is owned by the Federation of Finnish Technology Industries.
