PorcBoost® EB — Chr. Hansen’s new probiotic feed supplement for suckling and weaned piglets — has been shown to inhibit the proliferation and harmful effects of pathogenic E. coli, the leading cause of diarrhea in piglets.
Chr. Hansen scientists carefully selected the novel strain of Bacillus subtilis in PorcBoost® EB based on its E. coli-inhibiting properties and demonstrated safety in weaned piglets. Studies show that it reduces the severity of E. coli-induced diarrhea, thereby decreasing related mortalities and performance losses.

PorcBoost® EB reduces E.coli enduced diarrhea
PorcBoost® EB supplementation significantly reduced scours (diarrhea) in weaned piglets. Preliminary study data is shown in the graph below (Figure 1), in which E. coli-challenged weaned piglets supplemented with PorcBoost® EB have virtually the same fecal scores as weaned piglets without E. coli challenge.

Proven mode of action
The livability and performance improvements observed in these studies are consistent with PorcBoost® EB’s proven E. coli-inhibiting mode of action. In addition to inhibiting E. coli growth in vitro (Figure 2), the strain shows excellent adherence to swine intestinal epithelia, thereby reducing intestinal adherence of E. coli by up to 97% (Figure 3).

PorcBoost® EB can be used with a wide range of feed additives and survives pelleting temperatures up to 203oF, offering maximum flexibility in feed formulation. In addition to being compatible with antibiotics, organic acids, zinc oxides and copper, the all-natural, non-GMO product is synergistic with other Chr. Hansen probiotic strains, enabling the possibility of effective combined use.
