First Aid Kit is the Swedish folk music duo that has hypnotized the world with their angel-like voices and lyrics and we at Swedish Hasbeens are no different. For their new record Stay Gold, Swedish Hasbeens collaborated with the girls and created a golden boot for their 2014 tour. We met up with the Swedish sisters to talk about Sweden, fashion and clogs.
What is your major fashion inspiration? We're very into sixties and seventies fashion. We love going to vintage stores and discovering old treasures. There's something about that time, culturally, musically, visually, that we are very drawn to.
Why did you decide to name your album Stay Gold? The whole record is about time and realizing how fleeting life can be. Nothing stays, everything will pass and how should you relate to that? It's about struggling to find your way and trying to stay gold. For us staying gold means to live in the moment and appreciate what you have right in front of you.
Why did you decide to team up with Swedish Hasbeens? Clogs have always been the ultimate shoe type for us! We've always felt Swedish Hasbeens make our dream stage shoes. They go hand in hand with the outfits we wear and the music we make. We love the folkloristic designs and the natural wooden materials.
What are your fall plans? We'll be touring all over Europe and North America. We're going to play some beautiful legendary venues like Royal Albert Hall in London and The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville to name two examples. It's going to be intense and very interesting. Touring is always about adventure, seeing new places and meeting new faces.
What is the best thing about Sweden? Though there are a lot of issues, there's a general thought about equality and social justice here that is really powerful. The nature is magnificent. It's a good place to be if you're creative. We're a small country with a tight-knit musical community who inspire each other.
