Responding to continued revelations about National Security Agency’s spying activities, the tech giants are calling for limits to governments’ authority to collect bulk data about internet users, increased oversight on security agencies, more transparency about government data requests, respect for free flow of information across the globe and the creation of a legal framework for cooperation between countries.

“The security of users’ data is critical, which is why we’ve invested so much in encryption and fight for transparency around government requests for information. This is undermined by the apparent wholesale collection of data, in secret and without independent oversight, by many governments around the world”, said Google’s CEO Larry Page.
