Xi Jinping has begun a three-day visit to Mexico in which it is hoped the Chinese President can smooth over a rocky relationship. Progress has been ignited by the signing of a number of deals with his Mexican counterpart.
Xi Jinping signed a number of deals with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto covering food, energy, education, mining and infrastructure, with the latter saying the agreements mark "a new phase" in bilateral ties.
China's investment in and pursuit of raw materials and oil in Latin America is in contrast to its relationship with Mexico, which has competing with China in the US market in sectors such as manufactured goods.
