With Chinese Lunar New Year kicking off on January 31, 2014, Chinese people from around the world bade farewell to the Snake zodiac and ushered in the auspicious Horse.
Stepping into the eighth year, the Chinese New Year Temple Fair, organized by the International Cultural Centre Caisa in Helsinki with the support of the Chinese Embassy in Finland, has been a premier event with the Chinese community and local residents in Finland year after year.
Despite the arctic chill which saw temperature plummet to as low as minus 15 degree Celsius in Helsinki, more than 25,000 people, including Chinese community and local residents, gathered at the Glass Palace Square in downtown Helsinki to welcome the Lunar New Year. The fact that this year’s celebrations were held during the week only served to attract more visitors to stop by and take their share of the New Year’s joy after work or school.
