NIST Selected to Pilot Harvard Business School Course

Harvard Business School recently launched a new online course aimed at teaching business fundamentals: CORe. While it was originally designed for undergraduate students who may not study business in their universities, Harvard, in consultation with the International Baccalaureate, had begun exploring the idea of piloting the programme for a small number of prestigious secondary schools around the world. NIST International School – along with Vienna International School, United Nations International School in New York, Graded School in Brazil, and Atlanta International School – is one of those few pilot schools, and the only one in Asia.

CORe takes place over 11 weeks, starting in June and finishing in August, and covers the fundamentals of business analytics, economics for managers and financial accounting. All of the content was designed by Harvard faculty and staff, as was the online platform. Being online, the course can be taken from anywhere in the world and culminates with a final examination, taken at at one of Pearson’s 4,000 testing centres. Students who successfully complete it receive a credential and transcript from Harvard, and can also earn Honors or High Honors recognition for exceptional performance.

NIST has continually sought out unique learning opportunities for students through programmes such as the Global Citizen Diploma, and CORe will be an exciting pathway that fits well with its mission of inspiring individual excellence. While this programme will only be open to IB diploma students, it is impressive to think that some graduates will be able to list Harvard Business School on their CVs upon completing high school. By actively seeking out ways to provide unique and challenging experiences for students, NIST aims to continue transforming modern education and learning.
