​Andreas Bakkerud signerer for Ken Block, og Hoonigan Racing Division

Andreas Bakkerud har signert en kontrakt med Ken Blocks nye FIA World Rallycross team, Hoonigan Racing Division og Ford Performance. – Dette er en av tidenes største satsninger i rallycross. Et stort steg videre i min karriere, og en fantastisk mulighet til å komme enda nærmere mitt mål om å bli verdens beste rallycross sjåfør, sier Andreas Bakkerud.

Ken Block annonserte i forrige uke sin plan om å satse for fullt på FIA World Rallycross Championship i 2016, sammen med bilfabrikanten Ford – og med et helt nytt team i sirkuset, Blocks eget Hoonigan Racing Division. Nå er det altså klart at amerikaneren skal ha bergenseren Andreas Bakkerud som teamkompis de kommende årene.

- Det er utrolig stort for oss, og det definitive høydepunktet så langt i min karriere.
Vi hadde flere valg før årets sesong, men vi er sikre på at dette var det riktige steget videre i karrieren for min del. Jeg har troen på at dette er det sterkeste teamet i rallycross nå, både på og utenfor banen. De vil gi meg store muligheter til å utvikle meg som utøver, sier Bakkerud som også er begeistret for bilen han skal kjøre: - Ford Performance og M-Sport bygger noe av de beste bilene i rallycross, og jeg kan ikke vente på å få gjøre den første testen, sier Bakkerud.

Ken Block er også begeistret over å ha fått nordmannen med på laget:
Jeg er virkelig glad for at jeg har fått Andreas [Bakkerud] med meg i mitt, sier Block.
Jeg valgte Andreas fordi han er en veldig god rallycross sjåfør, og han har bevist at han kan vinne løp. Han har også mye erfaring fra å kjøre med Ford Fiesta ST chassisene de siste sesongene, noe som er viktig. Jeg er overbevist om at med ham på laget mitt, vil vi være sterke kandidater til å vinne FIA World Rallycross Championship for team, sier Block.

Ken Block er for de fleste kjent for sine gymkhana videoer med over 100 millioner visninger på You Tube – og som har gitt han en superstjerne status innenfor motorsporten, og til en av de største utøverne i sosiale medier med over 5.4 millioner følgere på Facebook. Han har i tilegg til de heftige gymkhana videoene også kjørt flere år i det amerikanske rallycross mesterskapet Global Rallycross, og rally i WRC.

- Jeg skylder mange en stor takk for å ha kommet så langt som vi nå har gjort – og at jeg i dag sitter her med denne muligheten foran meg. Det er veldig mange, både store og små partnere, ildsjeler og supportere – og også tidligere team som har bidratt sterkt til at jeg er den utøveren jeg er i dag, sier Bakkerud og gleder seg til å komme i gang med sesongen. - Jeg har blitt godt kjent med Ken og teamet hans denne høsten, og følte at de virkelig ville ha meg med i teamet. KEN BLOCK NAMES ANDREAS BAKKERUD AS DRIVER #2 FOR 2016 WORLD RX TEAM

PARK CITY, UT, January 20th: Following up on Ken Block’s announcement last week that he’ll be heading to the FIA World Rallycross Championship for the 2016 race season, Hoonigan Racing Division and Block are now pleased to announce that the effort won’t just be a single car entry. Andreas Bakkerud, current top FIA World Rallycross driver, will be joining the team, making it a two-car attack.

A highly talented and experienced rallycross driver hailing from Norway, Bakkerud was Block’s first choice when it came to picking a second championship-capable driver to help anchor his efforts in World RX this year. Bakkerud has also raced behind the wheel of a Ford Fiesta ST in the past, which makes him a valuable addition in the pursuit of the Supercar Team Championship title for Ford.

“I’m really excited that I’ve got Andreas [Bakkerud] joining me on my team this year for FIA World Rallycross,” said Block. “I chose Andreas because he’s damn good behind the wheel of a rallycross car and he’s proven that he can win races. He’s also got experience racing the Ford Fiesta ST chassis the last few seasons, which is important. I’m confident that with him on my team, we will be strong contenders for the 2016 FIA World Rallycross championship.”

Despite having only been around the top level of World RX for three seasons, Bakkerud has racked up 5 overall wins and 11 podiums in that time. In addition to those results, earlier in his career he has taken 1st overall in the European Rallycross Championship in the Super1600 class in 2011 and 2012. He made the jump to Supercars in 2013, where he landed two 1st place finishes (Sweden and France) and finished 4th overall in the ERC. In 2014, Bakkerud continued to be a force in the FIA World Rallycross Championship Supercar series with wins in Great Britain and Turkey, finishing the season 5th overall. This past season, Bakkerud finished 4th overall in the championship, racking up a 1st place podium during the Italian round.

I’m really excited about the opportunity to race alongside Ken and his team—that happens to be one of the best motorsports teams in the world!” said Bakkerud. “I love racing rallycross and I’ve been able to have a few good seasons back-to-back. Bakkerud will join Block on the starting grid at Portugal on April 16th and 17th, piloting the #13 Ford from Hoonigan Racing Division.
