Army commanders meet to talk about future cooperation.

The Commanding General of the U.S. Army in Europe, Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges, visited the Norwegian Army this week. The general was introduced to the Norwegian Joint Headquarters in Bodø and the Norwegian Border Guards, located on the Norwegian Army Post of Sør-Varanger, close to Kirkenes. Maj. Gen. Rune Jakobsen, Commanding General of the Norwegian Army hosted the visit. The visit lasted three days, from the 7th of June to the 9th of June.

"The U.S. Army is an important partner for the Norwegian Army. Having visiting units from the U.S. Army training regularly in Norway, is positive for the Norwegian Army."
- Maj.Gen. Rune Jakobsen, Commanding General of the Norwegian Army

The Norwegian and U.S. armies have longstanding historical relationships and recent mutual operational experiences. Conscript soldiers of the Norwegian Army Brigade North are currently participating in the U.S. Army led NATO-exercise Saber Strike in Latvia. This is one of many important training events between the two armies.

The main objective of the visit was to further solidify the already good cooperation between the two armies.

«U.S. Army Europe will work hard to strengthen the personal and procedural connections between the U.S. and Norwegian armies, both to reassure our key ally, and to increase interoperability.»
– Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges, Commanding General of the U.S. Army in Europe.
