UN humanitarian agencies announced today in Geneva a major new funding push relating to the humanitarian situations inside Syria as well as that in the surrounding region.
Details of the appeal were presented to the media at the UN Palais in Geneva in a press conference that began shortly after 1pm local time. The UN’s Emergency Relief Coordinator Valerie Amos and UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres spoke at the press conference.
The appeal contains several elements: A Syria Humanitarian Action Plan for the situation inside Syria (this is an OCHA-led plan), and a Syria Regional Response Plan (UNHCR-led). In addition there are separate appeals by the governments of Jordan and Lebanon.
To help media interested in this appeal, UNHCR is providing materials related to our aspects of the plans - the Syria Regional Response Plan – for download at www.unhcr.org/mediasyria
These include High Commissioner Guterres’ appeal to donors, the Syria Regional Response Plan, and accompanying multimedia materials: a photo package, video b-roll, and graphics.
Queries related to the other major element of the appeal, the Syria Humanitarian Action Plan, are being dealt with by our OCHA colleagues.
