With the annual sales report finished UTZ CERTIFIED can present a sales growth of 12 % for 2011. The ever increasing demand for sustainable coffee production therefore gives UTZ CERTIFIED the chance to help more farmers to a better future. Sales rose due to UTZ CERTIFIED’s partners Sara Lee, Ahold, Mars and Nestlé’s expanding selection of commodities.
Coffee In 2011 UTZ CERTIFIED sold 136,752 metric tons of coffee beans, equal to 16.5 billion cups of coffee. Existing brands like Sara Lee expanding their product range in combination with new partners certifying their commodities made this possible.
Cocoa & Tea The demand for sustainable tea and cocoa seems to grow as companies makes their raw materials sustainable at greater pace than ever before. Sales of UTZ CERTIFIED cocoa increased by 150 % and sales of UTZ CERTIFIED tea increased by 50%. Companies’ likes Mars and Nestlé are buying increased amounts of UTZ CERTIFIED cocoa, why sales figures were visibly shown. In the tea sector Albert Heijn and Pickwick are significantly contributing to sustainable tea by their large purchases of UTZ CERTIFIED tea. Furthermore, UTZ is now certifying in Vietnam for Tan Huong and in South Africa for Carmien.
