Brødrene Aaron og Bryce Dessner fra The National har skapt og kuratert "Day of the Dead", en hyllest til Grateful Dead sin musikk og musikalske betydning og til inntekt for The Red Hot Organization. Albumet slippes 20. mai 2016 på 4AD / Playground Music.

For både Aaron og Bryce har Grateful Dead vært en inngangsport til musikkens verden, til å spille sammen, og den første musikken brødrene virkelig fordypet seg i. De husker fremdeles sin aller første jam session som fjortenåringer, sammen med venn og senere trommis i The National, Bryan Devendorf, hvor de spilte ”Eyes of the World” i timesvis på loftet til Bryan i en forstad i Ohio.

“Day of the Dead” er en omfattende hyllest til Grateful Deads låtskrivning og eksperimentalisme. Albumet har tatt fire år å spille inn, varer i nesten seks timer, og mer enn 60 artister med variert musikalsk bakgrunn er med på de 59 sporene. “Day of the Dead” er produsert av Aaron Dessner og co-produsert av Bryan Dessner og Josh Kaufman.

Blant de prominente medvirkende er artister som The War On Drugs, Wilco, Kurt Vile, Courtney Barnett, Anohni, The Flaming Lips, Mumford & Sons, Mina Tindle, The Tallest Man on Earth, The National og mange flere.

“Day of the Dead” slippes digitalt og som 5 x CD den 20. mai 2016. Senere på året kommer det en limited edition vinylboks. Hele overskuddet går til å hjelpe i kampen mot AIDS / HIV og relaterte helseplager over hele verden gjennom organisasjonen The Red Hot Organization som har som mål å bekjempe AIDS / HIV gjennom popkultur.
