Through Rdio’s digital music service that reinvents the way people discover, listen to and share music, the band has unveiled for the first time their diverse and powerful collection of 10 songs, including the Record Store Day release, “Alien Days,” first single “Your Life Is A Lie” and a cover of “Introspection” by 1960’s psych band Faine Jade (see below for full track listing).  Via Rdio, fans in 31 countries will not only be able to hear these brand new tracks, but also access the “Optimizer,” a first-of-its-kind complete audio and visual immersion produced by MGMT live show video instrumentalist Alejandro Crawford, and featuring video and CGI work by Andrew Benson, Emilio Gomariz, Geoffrey Lillemon and Chris Timms.  The “Optimizer” is included with all commercial formats of the album.  The CD and vinyl LP offer the greatest versatility in experiencing the “Optimizer.”  Each comes with a unique code that allows for a download of the “Optimizer” in standard or high definition.  Once downloaded, the file can be viewed on a computer and transferred to most mobile devices.  Most digital retailers will also offer the “Optimizer” with the album download.   

Ever-changing and continually defying convention, MGMT’s Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser have successfully created an album that reflects who they are right now. Working with longtime collaborator Dave Fridmann (co-producer and mixer of Oracular Spectacular and Congratulations, The Flaming Lips, Tame Impala) in his Tarbox Road Studios, MGMT experimented with various in-studio writing processes and crafted what Under The Radar declares their “most visionary and challenging album.”   Their sound is a more confident one, one that is self-aware and mirrors the world around them, which was captured by The New York Post when they declared “Your Life Is A Lie” “oddly profound – and quietly brilliant.”  

Fans will be able to catch MGMT on tour this Fall. North American tour dates will be announced soon. These tour dates follow a summer filled with festival appearances and headline shows, including headlining gigs at Bunbury Festival, First City Festival, FYF Festival and Bumbershoot Festival. MGMT have recently showcased the first single off of MGMT, “Your Life Is A Lie,” on The Late Show with David Letterman, and will perform on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon this Wednesday, September 11.  The band will reveal their second video, “Cool Song No. 2,” during the album’s week of release.
