Remembering Hiroshima and Nagasaki through the personal belongings of victims

As part of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize Exhibition, Ban the Bomb, the Nobel Peace Center presents five personal artefacts left by victims of the 1945 nuclear bombs, showing for the first time in Northern Europe. These artefacts bear silent witness to the devastating impact of the nuclear bomb on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and the lives that were lost and forever changed.

​Sim Chi Yin has travelled to North Korea and the US to photograph nuclear sites as part of the Nobel Peace Prize Exhibition 2017, at the Nobel Peace Center in Oslo. This year’s Nobel Peace Prize exhibition is named “Ban the Bomb” inspired by ICAN’s slogan.

This year's peace price exhibition Ban the Bomb is both a tribute to Nobel Peace Prize winner ICAN and a statement on the cruelty of nuclear weapons. At the heart of the exhibition are objects from Hiroshima and Nagasaki; a unique photo series about the current nuclear threat; and a call for action for the public to engage in the work against nuclear weapons.

New exhibition about borders in Europe opens Friday

Shifting Boundaries is an exhibition of photos that explore a changing Europe. Twelve European photographers have been chosen to address the same topic. The exhibition’s opening coincides with the Oslo Kulturnatt event on Friday, 15 September. Rania Mustafa Ali and Anders Hammer, who produced the Norwegian documentary Escape from Syria: Rania’s Odyssey, will host the opening ceremony.

​Along with people across the world, the Nobel Peace Center mourns the loss of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Liu Xiaobo. He died on Thursday July 13th in China. In memory of Liu Xiaobo, the Nobel Peace Center has set up a temporary commemorative installation about his life and work.

It is with great grief today, that we receive the news that Kaci Kullmann Five has passed away at the age of 65. She was a political pioneer, an important role model for many women and, for decades, an important figure in Norwegian society. She was also a vastly important person to the Nobel Peace Center, as a supportive board member and a unifying leader of the Norwegian Nobel Commitee.
