New Executive Director of the Nobel Peace Center appointed

“Liv Tørres is very experienced in international work. In her, the Nobel Peace Center gets an Executive Director that will take the Center further and enhance the already strong international profile, says Leader of the Board”, Olav Njølstad.

“The Nobel Peace Center celebrated its 10-year anniversary this summer, and has since the opening in 2005 become one of the most important and most visited cultural institutions. The Center’s exhibitions are widely acclaimed, and contribute to create interest for the Nobel Peace Prize and to address vital international issues in the public sphere. A key task for the new Executive Director will be to further develop and extend this work.”

“The Board seeks particularly to strengthen the Nobel Peace Center’s position as a national and international meeting place for information, reflection and debate for current topics within the realm of peace, war and conflict resolution. With this in mind, we are happy and proud to present Liv Tørres as the new Executive Director.”

Liv Tørres is currently Secretary General of the Norwegian People’s Aid, a position she has held since September 2011. Previous engangements include political advisor for Minister of Labour Hanne Bjurstrøm (Labour Party), the research foundation Fafo and the Research Council of Norway. Tørres is 54 years old and holds a PhD in political science from the University of Oslo. She starts in the position as Executive Director of the Nobel Peace Center when Bente Erichsen retires 1 January 2016.

“Retiring Executive Director Bente Erichsen has done monumental work, and is instrumental in the fact that the Nobel Peace Center today stands out as one of the most important cultural institutions in Oslo. She has built a small, but highly professional organisation that achieves results above and beyond expectations year round. Identifying a person to replace Bente Erichsen has not been an easy undertaking. But the Board is convinced that we have found the right person in Liv Tørres. We have great expectations and confidence in Liv Tørres abilities to feed competence, implementation and targeted energy into the Nobel Peace Center,” Leader of the Board at the Nobel Peace Center, Olav Njølstad states.

The new Executive Director met the staff of the Nobel Peace Center together with the Leader of the Board Olav Njølstad at 10.45 today, Monday 31 August.
