The BARTEC Group is one of the 100 most innovative medium-sized companies in Germany. This has been found out in a recent survey carried out in the course of the Germany-wide intersectoral company comparison “Top 100”. In the 17th round of this renowned economic initiative, the medium-sized enterprise convinced with its tailor-made innovation management. Lothar Späth, the ex-prime minister of Baden-Württemberg, handed over the coveted “Top 100 quality seal“ to the Baden-Württemberg company this Friday night during a ceremonial act in the guesthouse Petersberg in Königswinter. With this award, the mentor of the initiative for medium-sized companies appreciates the merits of BARTEC in the fields of “Innovation-promoting top management”, “Innovation climate”, “Innovative processes and organization“, “Innovation marketing“ and “Innovation success“.
The manufacturer of industrial safety technology for explosion-hazardous areas has defined an innovation process which guarantees an efficient realization of ideas. In the enterprise, which was founded in 1975, innovation is the common task of all 1,370 employees at altogether eight production sites as well as 26 sales units. On the way to the final product or to the realizable process improvement, each idea has to pass a number of milestones at BARTEC. Only when all lights are on green, a project progresses to the next round. This strategy offers to each employee the chance of taking part in the innovation process but, at the same time, obliges them to do so. “ Each idea requires helpers to promote and realize it both inside and outside the enterprise“, explains Dr. Anjou Appelt, member of the management board. For the worldwide active BARTEC Group, another central element of the innovation process is an intensive cooperation with customers and users as well as cooperation with technology partners in key areas such as mobile communication, visualization technology or electronics. While the cooperation partners contribute their application knowledge, the enterprise itself contributes its competence in the field of explosion protection. “Innovation means a realizable improvement – no matter whether it refers to a product, a process, a big idea or a small step“, says Dr. Appelt.
For the award, the enterprise had to endure a strict two-stage procedure of the Vienna University of Economics. “Our results show that the 100 top innovators handle challenges energetically and, consequently, are well prepared for the current economic situation. In most of these enterprises, innovation is given top priority“, the scientific manager of the survey, Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Franke, comments on the analysis. For instance, the prize-winning companies gain two thirds of their turnover with innovations and innovative improvements during the past three years – compared to only 30% in a comparable group of German medium-sized companies. Moreover, the top enterprises have been able to save as much as 12% of their costs by means of process innovations, whereas „average medium-sized enterprises“ saved only 4%. The consequence: Among this year’s “Top 100“, there are 54 national market leaders, 22 of whom even are the worldwide number one in their respective sector.
Dr. Anjou Appelt is glad about this success: “As has been proved now, our innovative strength is among the best that the German medium-sized business can offer. This strengthens our credibility and creates trust among employees, partners and, of course, customers. There is hardly a better way to face times of crisis.“
